Weight loss is something with which millions of people struggle. As you know, your weight doesn’t just contribute to your physical appearance. Your weight and the amount of fat in your body can help or hurt your body by contributing to either a healthy physique or lead to medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Weight loss is not just about restricting calories, which is what most people try to do. Weight loss is really about correcting your nutrition, managing your stress, and for some, working with or around chronic diseases and medical conditions.
What Is The Thyroid?
The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck below the cartilage known as Adam’s apple. As part of the endocrine system, the thyroid produces two main hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These two hormones influence every single cell in your body. From how your body metabolizes fats and carbohydrates, to temperature regulation and heart rate, to the production of protein – thyroid hormones are center stage.
The adrenal glands, located on the top of each kidney, are responsible for the production of sex hormones (estrogen and testosterone) as well as cortisol (the stress hormone). These hormones are essential to proper body function and are the primary source of estrogen and testosterone in men and women after reaching middle age.
Our team is equipped to help you treat a number of pituitary conditions including:

The primary hormone necessitating replacement in men is testosterone. About .5% of the male population experiences testosterone deficiency, called andropause, hypogonadism, or “low T.” Testosterone levels in males peak between adolescence and their early 20s and begins to decrease by about 1% per year throughout their 30s or 40s. Although more likely to occur in men over 50, levels below 200 ng/dL are considered low and may occur in men of any age.
Symptoms of andropause may include:
- Low libido
- Depression
- Lack of energy
- Diminished bone density
- Insomnia
- Abdominal fat
- Breast enlargement
- Trouble remembering things
- Reduced muscle mass
- Reduced body hair

PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome, is a common hormone disorder affecting women of reproductive age. Symptoms of PCOS include:
- infrequent, or irregular menstrual periods (or no period at all)
- excess male hormone (androgen)
- difficulty getting pregnant
- excessive hair growth
- weight gain
- thinning of hair, or hair loss from the head
- oily skin or acne
With PCOS, ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid, called follicles, and release eggs irregularly or not at all. While the exact cause for PCOS is uncertain, early treatment may help reduce complications long-term including type 2 diabetes or heart disease.
